Our President, Shuxian (Susanne) Wassenius, P.E., F.SEI., is a structural engineer with 21 years of relevant experience. She earned her Master of Engineering and Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland College Park. She has designed and analyzed various new and existing concrete, masonry, wood and steel structures such as high-rise buildings, low-rise buildings, garages, pre-engineered buildings, retaining structures, and post-frame structures. Mrs. Wassenius also leads design teams on upgrading and retrofitting existing structures. She is an expert on the major building codes including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, ACI 530, AISC, and NDS.
Mrs. Wassenius is not only a successful practitioner in structural engineering, but she is also recognized for her organizational skills, leadership, interpersonal skills, and client rapport. Her professional and personal talents are evident by her recognition as a SEI (Structural Engineering Institute) Fellow with the honorary title “F.SEI.” added at the end of her name. Part of the qualifications to receive this honor requires the active involvement in SEI leadership activities. Additionally, the structural engineer must have a minimum of 10 years of significant work in structural engineering designs. Due to her activity and professional achievements in the structural engineering community on the local and national levels (once serving as the local President of the SEI Maryland Chapter and the national Chair of the Local Leadership Activity Executive Committee) for the last 12 years and having 21 years of structural engineering design experience, Susanne Wassenius was therefore recognized for this professional milestone. Her SEI fellowship is an indicator of our President’s passion and dedication to the structural engineering profession, which translates into the culture of Spyder Engineers.
